Alan Robson – Former CSEU General Secretary

The CSEU is sad to announce that Alan Robson, a much respected and valued former trade union official died on the 1st December 2021 surrounded by his family.
Before becoming a full-time trade union official, he worked at Swan Hunters and as a Marine engineer (3rd) on a variety of ships. He went on to have a trade union career, working his way up from an AEEU shop steward to convener to Assistant General Secretary of the AEU and finally elected General Secretary of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions (CSEU) in 1993 until his retirement in 2005.
In his CSEU job, Alan Robson represented over a million workers in engineering, shipbuilding, aerospace, railway, and manufacturing industries.
Alan Robson was a widower to Lydia Joyce, father to John, Gillian, Andrew and the late Ingrid and grandfather of 9 and was of course a member of Newcastle United’s Toon army.
He will be missed by his family, friends and trade union movement.
