The CSEU Maritime Forum resolves to fight the closure of Appledore, redundancies at Cammell Laird and the threat of job losses in shipyards across the UK. We believe these job losses are avoidable if the Government takes action now to amend the National Shipbuilding Strategy. All Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels should be regarded as vital for our national security and therefore designed, built and maintained in the UK.
We resolve to use every means necessary to defend our members, their jobs, their communities, their yards and supply chains and we will work together as representatives of the UK industry to change Government policy.
Carried unanimously at the Maritime Forum, 15th November 2018 in London.
There are no good reasons for subjecting the design and build of FSS to international competition and many good reasons to support building the ships here in the UK.
