Welding fumes
New evidence shows exposure to mild steel welding fume can cause cancer and HSE has updated guidance to reflect this.
In February 2019 HSE issued a safety alert to inform industry of a change in HSE enforcement expectations in relation to the control of exposure of welding fumes.
In response the CSEU has launched a series of industrial conferences to highlight the danger of exposure but also to raise awareness for generations of welders who have had a cancer diagnosis treated as a lifestyle issue rather than an industrial injury.
The CSEU is campaigning to ensure that workers receive appropriate PPE but also to make sure that workers, and their families, affected by welding fumes are given the same prominence as other industrial injuries such as asbestos sufferers.
